19 departments were on heatwave orange vigilance this Thursday afternoon after Météo France passed Haute-Vienne at this alert level.

"At 3 p.m., temperatures are already between 35 and 39 ° C over the whole of New Aquitaine, Vendée and Loire-Atlantique, western Occitania and in the Rhône valley" and "we are approaching 40°C locally from the Gironde to the Pyrénées-Atlantiques”, indicates Météo France in its bulletin.

France is currently going through its third heatwave episode of the summer, "of lesser intensity than those of last June and July, but more lasting on the scale of the national territory", recalls Météo-France.

Friday will be the hottest day, specifies Météo-France, with "very locally 41 ° C from Vendée to New Aquitaine, Occitanie and the Rhône valley".

This episode of heat wave will end with thunderstorms by “the western facade in the evening from Saturday to Sunday” which will generalize “Sunday to the whole country”.

On the drought side, 93 departments are affected by a restriction beyond vigilance on at least part of their territory.

The number of departments in a crisis situation, the highest level, has increased to 73, while 17 departments are on heightened alert, three on alert and three, Paris, Seine-Saint-Denis, and Hauts-de- Seine, in simple vigilance, according to the Ministry of Ecological Transition.
