25 years of One Piece manga: why are manga sales exploding in France?

The world of One Piece, a vast playground

One Piece

is simply the best-selling manga in history.

With over 500 million copies sold worldwide,

One Piece

's dizzying numbers even surpass those of cult novels like

Harry Potter

.

The manga has the advantage of having more volumes than JK Rowling's saga, since 103 volumes and 1,056 chapters tell us about the adventures of Luffy and his crew for more than 25 years.

We therefore follow the story of Monkey D. Luffy, a young pirate who travels the oceans in search of the treasure that will make him king of the pirates: the One Piece.

The success of the work is not difficult to understand: the manga is funny, its endearing characters, and the universe in which they evolve makes its readers dream.

The world of

One Piece

is indeed a vast playground in which we can find cyborgs, samurai or zombies.

An infinity of possibilities for its author, Eiichirō Oda, who can therefore decline the universe of

One Piece

to the only limit of his imagination.

Already 179,000 admissions and indoor incidents

The adventures of Luffy and his crew also delight the French publisher Glénat, which achieves record sales with the manga.

The last volume of

One Piece

published in 2021 had been printed in 250,000 copies, figures usually reserved for the Goncourt prizes.

The film

One Piece: Red

is on track to be a hit at the French box office, while 179,000 excited spectators have already made the trip to see it in preview this weekend.

Sessions which nevertheless did not always go well, with scenes of excesses, cries of joy and hysteria in the cinemas.

So I just saw what a One Piece session looks like in Marseille.... So it's literally become a norm to do shit on a known animated film....@Chriis_Alc have found worse than the preview of the Grand Rex.. pic.twitter.com/45aNUoscVS
