The French Ministry of the Armed Forces has decided to prohibit access to the Château de Vincennes (Val-de-Marne) to Russian citizens.

The historical and tourist site is indeed home to a center of the Historical Defense Service (SHD).

The library and archives of this department can usually be consulted by the public under certain conditions.

The internal directive follows Russia's invasion of Ukraine, the ministry said.

The authorities said they had "restricted access to the ministry's military premises to Russian nationals".

However, they explained that exceptions would be considered.

It is thus still possible to submit “requests relating to journalistic functions”.

Two repressed visitors

Made public on Monday, the measure has already been applied.

Two Russian women were turned back at the entrance to the building on July 30.

After showing their passports to the security guards, they were unable to enter.

The guards confirmed to them that the ban was due to their nationality.
