Li Qun, deputy minister of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism and director of the State Administration of Cultural Heritage, said at the dialogue that the party group of the State Administration of Cultural Heritage has recently confirmed and recommended the "Beijing Central Axis" as China's 2024 World Cultural Heritage application project.
Beijing is a world-famous ancient capital and a national cultural center. It is one of the first batch of national historical and cultural cities and the city with the earliest and largest number of world heritage sites in China.
2022 marks the 50th anniversary of UNESCO's adoption of the Convention on the Protection of World Cultural and Natural Heritage, the 40th anniversary of China's establishment of the historical and cultural city system and the 40th anniversary of Beijing becoming the first batch of national historical and cultural cities, and a critical year for Beijing's central axis application.

Li Qun said that in recent years, Beijing has used the central axis application as a starting point to promote the overall protection of the old city, issued regulations on the protection of cultural heritage along the central axis, promoted the protection and utilization of cultural relics in the functional core areas of the capital, and promoted the Grand Canal, the Great Wall, and the Yongding River in Xishan. The protection and development of the three cultural belts, the creation of the "City of Museums" and the National Demonstration Area for the Protection and Utilization of Three Mountains and Five Gardens, have achieved positive results and played a leading role in the country.
He said that the Ministry of Culture and Tourism and the State Administration of Cultural Heritage attach great importance to the protection of Beijing's famous historical and cultural city, actively promote the application of the "Beijing Central Axis" to the World Heritage List, and establish a ministry-city cooperation mechanism with the Beijing Municipal People's Government.
Recently, the party group of the State Administration of Cultural Heritage has researched and confirmed that the "Beijing Central Axis" is recommended as China's 2024 World Cultural Heritage Application Project.
It is hoped that Beijing will adhere to the general policy of "protection first, strengthen management, excavate value, effectively utilize and make cultural relics come alive", and continue to promote the protection and utilization of historical and cultural cities and cultural relics through the central axis application, and promote the national cultural center building.

This dialogue meeting was guided by the State Administration of Cultural Heritage and the Beijing Historical and Cultural Cities Protection Committee, hosted by the Beijing Historical and Cultural Cities Protection Committee Office, the Beijing Municipal Bureau of Cultural Relics, and the Beijing Central Axis Application and Protection Office, and undertaken by the Xicheng District People's Government.
At the meeting, the Beijing Municipal Bureau of Cultural Relics and the China Urban Planning and Design Institute signed a cooperation framework agreement to jointly establish the "Beijing Historical and Cultural Protection and Inheritance and Urban Sustainable Development Research Center".
