Sanxingdui has new news!

On August 4, the pig-nosed dragon head pillars in the No. 8 pit in the sacrificial area of the Sanxingdui site were extracted from the pit.

In previous publications, this long-eared, one-horned, never-before-seen cylindrical device has attracted a lot of attention, and this extraction makes its appearance more clearly known.

Under its "pig nose", the densely packed teeth have a very special shape - this is the "Yazhang" shape that has been found in Sanxingdui sacrificial pits before.

Zhao Hao, the person in charge of Pit No. 8 and associate professor of Peking University's School of Archaeology and Museology, introduced that this pig-nosed dragon-shaped vessel is 1.2 meters long, 38 centimeters high, 20 centimeters wide (between the eyes), and 12 centimeters wide. In the form of the head and body, there are seams on the head and body.

The whole utensil is in the shape of a long column, with a wide nose, a long ear, and a single horn on the dragon head. The body is evenly distributed with scale patterns and a series of feather-like patterns. The shape is peculiar and elegant.

Zhao Hao believes that this utensil is likely to be an imaginary object created by the ancient Shu people using a variety of animal images.

It is worth mentioning that the mouth of the pig-nosed dragon head columnar is densely covered with teeth-like things. If you look closely, you can find that it depicts the image of Yazhang.

Zhao Hao said that among the artifacts unearthed in Sanxingdui, similar images of Yazhang are not uncommon. A batch of bronze small standing men unearthed before were decorated with such Yazhang, and the dragon-shaped artifacts unearthed in Pit No. 7 also had teeth on their heads. Zhang.

"We used to think that there is only one way of using the yazhang, but it seems that this is not the case. It may be used by people, or it may be used as a decoration on clothes, or even painted on other utensils as decoration. Wait, it's all possible." Zhao Hao said.
