The firefighters continued Friday evening to fight against two resumptions of fire which occurred the day before in the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence, fires which covered more than 1,000 hectares but do not represent a threat for the population, they specified in a press release .

In the Villeneuve-Niozelles sector, where the fire covered 245 hectares, the firefighters continued in the evening to treat the particularly active right flank of the fire which is also virulent in its center.

About 170 firefighters from Alpes-de-Haute-Provence, Vaucluse and Bouches-du-Rhône are mobilized on this fire.

They benefited from the support of a water bomber helicopter until nightfall.

80 kilometers to the east, towards the commune of Rougon, another still active fire has already covered 868 hectares, the severe drought and the rugged terrain favoring its progression.

Some 154 firefighters and soldiers are on the scene.

During the day, they received the support of national resources, in particular two Canadairs.

In addition to the mega-fires in Gironde, several fires also affected the south-east of France this summer, hit by a historic drought, with in particular 1,600 hectares going up in smoke south of Avignon in mid-July.

At the end of June, 1,800 hectares had also burned at the French army training camp in Canjuers (Var), located not far from there.
