Shiga Prefecture announced on the 6th that 2,655 new people were confirmed to be infected with the new coronavirus in the prefecture.
It was the highest number of cases ever announced on Saturday, surpassing 2,000 for the 11th straight day.
A man in his 80s was also confirmed dead.
This brings the total number of confirmed infections in the prefecture to 143,689, and the number of deaths to 236.
