«Emirates Copyright Management» .. a turning point in the local creative industries

The launch of the Emirates Copyright Management Association, the first of its kind in the region, constitutes a turning point in the creative industries sector in the UAE. It strengthens the pillars of the printing and publishing markets and ensures its activity and prosperity in an environment that stimulates the improvement of ways to provide and distribute creative content and protect it and preserve the rights of its owners.

With the launch of the association, the UAE became the center of the first association specialized in protecting the copyrights of publications, written and illustrated works in the Arab world, joining more than 80 countries that have similar associations for managing copyrights around the world.

The association is an important step towards securing the copyrights and stakeholders of creative content, including authors, publishers and illustrators working in the UAE book industry.

The establishment of a copyright association is a major factor in motivating writers and illustrators to provide creative content, and encouraging publishers to invest in cultural and creative industries without fear of incurring losses due to illegal practices, such as piracy and copying works without obtaining the consent and compensation of their owners, where writers, illustrators and publishers suffer from Copy their work without their permission and without any dues or compensation.

By joining the association, authors, illustrators and creative publishers are able to claim payments and dues when their work is reproduced by registered users holding a copyright license.

The President of the Emirates Association for the Management of Copy Rights, Yazia Khalifa, said: “The knowledge, cultural and creative economy requires an integrated process to flourish and develop. The rights of workers in the creative and knowledge publishing sector, and ensuring that they are rewarded for their creative efforts at the local and global levels.
