Sharjah Public Libraries participated in the 87th International Conference of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA), which was held recently in the Irish capital Dublin, with a remarkable presence of specialists, librarians and organizations from around the world.

Sharjah Libraries allocated an independent pavilion for their participation in the international conference, which included several vital areas, the first being a social one to organize discussions and dialogues between workers in the library sector, and the second a business area to host the leading organizations and companies in the library sector and to discuss ways of cooperation and strengthening partnerships with them.

Sharjah Libraries have opened the door to participate in the awareness campaign for all workers in the information and library sector, provided they agree to publish their records on the accounts of Sharjah public libraries on social media platforms, while giving them the opportunity to share their records on their personal accounts with the Sharjah Libraries logo.

Regarding participation in the global event, Director of Sharjah Public Libraries Department, Iman Bouchlebi, said: “Our participation in the 87th Conference of the International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA) translates the vision of the emirate and its cultural project in building people and nations over five decades, a vision that His Highness laid the foundations of. Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, as Sharjah Public Libraries, through their independent pavilion, presented an honorable civilized image of the role of Sharjah and the UAE in promoting dialogue and cultural communication between the peoples of the world through books and libraries.

She added: “The International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions Conference is the most prominent global event in the information and library sector, which brings together institutions, associations, librarians and all those working in this sector from all over the world. Experience, expertise and international best practices in this sector, and a belief in the importance of keeping pace with the latest trends and innovations in enhancing our competitiveness and innovative visions.”

As part of its participation in the conference, Sharjah Public Libraries presented a program entitled “Today’s Talk”, in which it discussed several topics, within three main themes: communication and interaction, empowerment, and inspiration, with the aim of encouraging dialogues and exchanging visions and ideas, the results of which contribute to supporting the strategy of Sharjah Public Libraries for international cooperation.

Success stories

The Sharjah Libraries’ pavilion at the conference included an area for filming the success stories of workers in the library sector with their various specializations, as part of a promotional awareness campaign that highlighted their participation and success stories, and their role in combining traditional frameworks with modern technology, to keep pace with the rapid changes taking place in the sector, in addition to developing information programs and systems. that meet the needs of users, and their ability to adapt to the new tasks and roles assigned to them.
