What could be nicer than dozing in the sun after a long meal?

Not much, most people would say.

The young walrus lady Freya's longing for relaxation seems to be so great that she doesn't give a damn about the consequences of her time off.

For the past few weeks, Freya has been hanging around in the Oslo fjord, ignoring the casualties she inflicts on disgruntled boat owners.

When looking for places to rest, Freya is pragmatic and likes to heave herself onto a motorized dinghy or other small boats.

Unfortunately, they are anything but made for Freya's proud weight of around 600 kilograms, they literally buckle and sink under their load.

The Norwegian Fisheries Directorate, which observes Freya on her tour, cannot say how many boats Freya has already damaged.

Freya is not stressed

According to Kathrine Ryeng, a veterinarian at the Norwegian Institute for Marine Research, the boats remind Freya of ice floes.

Walruses like Freya actually live in the arctic north.

It is normal for young walruses to leave their herd and explore new routes, said Nadia Jdaini, spokeswoman for the Norwegian Directorate of Fisheries, on Wednesday.

The fact that she ended up in the Oslo fjord is unusual.

The animal is currently not stressed.

“She is eating, resting and appears to be in good physical condition.

As long as people keep their distance from her, there shouldn't be any dangerous situations." A few days ago, the Fisheries Directorate warned onlookers not to get too close to the resting people.

Walruses are peaceful creatures, but will also attack humans if they feel threatened.

Incidentally, Freya's desire to travel is not entirely new.

According to media reports, she appeared in Denmark, Germany, the Netherlands and Great Britain last year and also attracted attention there through extensive sunbathing.

Due to the literally relaxed situation, it is currently out of the question for the Fisheries Directorate to drive Freya out of the Oslo fjord by human hands.

"It's best if she finds the way on her own," spokeswoman Jdaini said.
