The first auction of apples harvested this year was held in Itayanagi Town, Aomori Prefecture, where apple production is thriving.

In Itayanagi Town, Aomori Prefecture, there is the only wholesale market specializing in apples in Japan, and the auction started on the 2nd.

All of the apples lined up are early-harvest varieties called ``Gokuwase'', and there are 4 varieties, including ``Hanaiwai'' and green apple ``Natsumidori,'' totaling about 20 tons.

Approximately 500 people gathered at the market, and while the producers were watching, they were being auctioned off one after another to the enthusiastic shouts.

On the 2nd, the price of "Hanasai", which is popular as a Bon offering, was about 24,000 yen per box of 20 kg, which is about 10% higher than last year.

According to the market, although the quality of apples this year varies due to the bad weather in early spring, the size is sufficient.

A local apple farmer said, "I'm glad that the price is higher than last year. I want to do my best to grow big apples."

Mr. Tomonori Tsushima of "Tsugaru Apple Market" said, "I want producers to grow delicious and high-quality apples. I hope that there will be no natural disasters."
