A hands-on learning session was held in Tottori City for children to learn how to open the shells of natural rock oysters "Natsuki" caught in Tottori Prefecture.

On the 2nd, a total of 24 children from the 4th to 6th grades of elementary school in Chizu Town participated in the hands-on learning held in Tottori City.

After learning how to make oysters, such as scallops and gills, from a lecturer from the prefectural fisheries cooperative association, the children challenged themselves to open the shells of natural rock oysters caught in Tottori prefecture, Natsuki.

While learning the procedure from the instructor, the children put a special knife through the gaps in the shell and took out the meat.

At first, some of the children had trouble opening the scallops, but after receiving advice from the instructor to cut the adductor muscle by pressing the knife against the upper shell, they soon became able to open the scallops well.

A 4th grade boy who participated said, "This is the first time I've tried. I want to be able to open an oyster cleanly if I have the opportunity to open it at home."

Also, a 4th grade girl said, "It was more difficult than I thought, but it was easy once I got the hang of it. I want to teach it to my family."
