The origin of the trial is that Coleen Rooney, the wife of the current national team player Wayne Rooney, suspected Leicester player Jamie Vardy's wife Rebeckah Vardy of leaking information about her to the tabloid press.

To reveal who leaked the information, Coleen Rooney created an Instagram account with made-up gossip and restricted access to the account so that the only person who could see it was Rebekah Vardy.

When the fabricated stories reached the gossip press, she accused Rebeckah Vardy of being the one who leaked the information in posts on Twitter.

Vardy then countered by suing her for defamation.

The dispute was settled in court on Friday when the court ruled in favor of Coleen Rooney.

The name is based on a play on words

The case has come to be known as the Wagatha Christie case.

The name is a play on words that mixes the detective writer Agatha Christe's name and the word WAG, the English acronym for girlfriends and wives (wives and girlfriends) of professional sportsmen.

A handful of documentaries are already underway and now the producers behind the mini-series "An English Scandal" and "A British Scandal" will also take on the case and make a drama series of the events.
