Miyagi Prefecture and Sendai City announced on the 31st that 2,792 new people were confirmed to be infected with the new coronavirus.
According to Sendai City, a man in his 60s who was confirmed to be infected died.
The number of confirmed infections in the prefecture is the highest ever for a Sunday, 775 more than last Sunday.
The total number of infected people in Miyagi Prefecture is 134,181, and the total number of deaths is 213.
