SBS 'I Want to Know' tracks the death of the Wando family.

The subtitle of 'I want to know that', which will be broadcast on the 30th, 'Why do I have to die - The story of the children who survived', takes a look behind the scenes of 'deaths after the murder of a child'.

At 10:25 am on June 29, many people gathered at Songgok Port, Wando, which was usually quiet.

All in front of the sea, a silver car was pulled over the water.

The disappearance of a family that the entire nation felt sadly ended in death.

On May 24, the police released a photo of a missing person and received a report.

The main character in the photo is 10-year-old Jo Yang.

The person who reported the disappearance was not the family, but Yang's homeroom teacher.

A child who even submitted an application for experiential learning to go on a trip to Jeju Island with his parents.

However, even after the promised experiential learning period was over, Yang did not return to school or contact his parents.

A police investigation began to follow the traces of the missing family members.

Unfortunately, it was confirmed within a month that the family had died.

The body of Yang's family was found in a salvaged car, and an autopsy revealed that sleeping pills were found in all three members of the family.

It seems that the parents' motives were financial problems.

Could this tragedy have been prevented?

In particular, he didn't even choose himself, so why did he have to face such a fate?

Another child died a year before the 10-year-old Yang's death in a tragedy that took place in Wando Port.

On June 11, 2021, 8-year-old Ha-yeon Jang (pseudonym) was found dead in her room.

In the same room as Ha-yeon, her mother Na was also found dead.

It was Hayeon's father, Mr. Jang, who informed 119 of their deaths.

Police concluded that the father was the only survivor when the parents tried to kill themselves after killing the child.

The decisive clue was found in Ha-yeon's body.

The DNA of Jang's father was found under the fingernails of Yang Ha-yeon, who died because she couldn't breathe.

It was evidence that Yang Ha Yeon resisted his father to avoid his death.

In addition, messages from the Jang couple conspiring to murder a child and make an extreme choice were also found.

Father Jang, who has been loving and raising his daughter so much that he recorded everything about Ha-yeon on SNS since she was 2 years old.

Why did he force this tragedy on his daughter?

The message Ha-yeon left on the body was, after all, 'I don't want to die'.

The court sentenced Jang to 12 years in prison for killing Ha-yeon and aiding in the death of his wife Na.

According to a report by the Criminal Policy Research Institute, for the past 20 years until 2019, one child per month has died as a result of parental choice.

If you include attempted crimes, it means that there are far more children who are put to death by their parents.

Our society has the highest suicide rate every year among OECD countries.

Behind the scenes are so-called 'suicides after killing children'.

Should I be killed because I am a child?

The informant, who told the production team of 'I want to know' that he had actually tried it, confessed that he felt he had to take responsibility for the children until the end because children could neither make decisions nor judge.

What were the children at that moment really thinking?

The production team met the children who survived the tragic choice of their parents, unlike Yang and Ha Yeon, who unfortunately died.

Survivors who have experienced tragedy at a young age.

Survivors, now adults, told many stories about their memories.

Mr. A, who had to hang from her window to avoid her mother with a knife to die together.

Her mother said she said, 'I do it because I love you.'

What his father said to Mr. B, who had been pushed into the road where the car was running, was, 'I have to let you go so I can go too'.

Mr. C, who remembers his mother who took him to the depths of the sea to go oyster hunting, was young, but he said he would never forget the horror he felt at that time.

In addition, the production team met several victims.

Contrary to the prejudice of parents that they knew nothing, children knew a lot.

Looking behind the scenes of 'deaths after the murder of a child', including the death of a family in Wando, and finding out the actual situation of the victims through the stories of survivors who actually experienced near death due to their parents' extreme choices when they were young. On the 30th at 11:10 pm, 'I want to know that', which is about whether there are practical measures to prevent damage, will be broadcast.
