The heat wave that has continued this week is reaching its climax.

Today (29th), the suffocating heat continues with the daytime temperature in Seoul rising close to 35 degrees.

This weekend, it is expected that the 5th typhoon 'Songda', which is heading north, will be in the indirect impact area, so it is necessary to prepare.

Reporter Kim Heung-soo reports.

It's hard to walk the streets without a parasol in the strong sunlight.

With a heat wave warning issued for most of the country, the daytime temperature in Seoul today was 34.3 degrees Celsius, and the daytime temperature in major areas across the country, including Daejeon and Gwangju Jeonju, recorded around 35 degrees.

There may be some places where there will be showers in the central inland until this evening, but the amount of precipitation is only 5~20mm, which is not enough to cool the heat.

The sweltering heat is expected to continue over the weekend, with daytime temperatures rising to around 35 degrees Celsius tomorrow.

Meanwhile, the 5th typhoon 'Songda', which occurred in the north-northwest of Guam last night, is moving northwest through the sea around 570 km east of Okinawa, Japan.

Tomorrow, passing the distant sea south of Jeju Island, the day after tomorrow is expected to weaken to a tropical depression after moving north to the sea northeast of Shanghai, China.

It will not directly affect Korea, but Jeju Island and the southern coast are in the indirect impact zone of typhoons, and heavy rain is expected.

During the weekend, 50 to 150 mm of rain is expected in Jeju Island and 10 to 60 mm in the southern regions.

In particular, heavy rainfall of up to 300mm is expected in the mountainous areas of Jeju and 80mm or more in the southern coast of Jeollanam-do and near Mt. Jirisan.

After the typhoon passes, hot and humid air is introduced, and tropical nights and sweltering heat are expected to follow.
