Life expectancy in Germany has fallen dramatically since the start of the Corona pandemic.

The Federal Statistical Office in Wiesbaden announced today, Tuesday, that life expectancy in 2021 was 83.2 years for females and 78.2 years for males.

According to the data, the average life expectancy of newborns decreased significantly compared to the year prior to the 2019 pandemic, by 4 months for females and 6 months for males.

The office attributed the main reason for this development to the "exceptionally high number of deaths during Corona waves."
