UK confirms it will host the next Eurovision Song Contest instead of Ukraine

The UK

has agreed with this year's Eurovision winner

to host the next edition of the song contest in 2023 instead.

Thus, as announced by the British Government, the country will host the next edition of the festival instead of Ukraine due to the war in which the country is plunged after the Russian invasion.

"Following a request from the European Broadcasting Union and the Ukrainian authorities, the BBC has agreed to host the competition next year," British Culture Secretary Nadine Dorries said in a statement.

This decision comes after the United Kingdom came in second place in the last edition of the festival, held in May.
