The Tour de France was watched by an average of 4 million people each afternoon on France 2. A figure never seen since 2011 despite an overall number of viewers down slightly.

The event also attracted more young people with an 8% increase in audience share among 15-34 year olds.

France Télévisions made money with the Tour de France over these first three weeks of July.

The big loop, won this Sunday by the Dane Jonas Vingegaard, was followed daily on France 2 by an average of 4 million people, according to figures released on Monday by the public group.

On the other hand, the overall number of viewers fell slightly compared to last year since 41.5 million French people watched the event this year compared to 42.4 million in 2021.

In question, in particular, the fact that the Tour started "a week later" than usual, in July and not in June, and on a Friday rather than a Saturday, explained to AFP Laurent-Eric Le Lay , the sports director of France TV.

The afternoons on France 2 brought together 4 million viewers on average from 3 p.m. for an audience share of 41.3%, a record since 2011.

6.4 million viewers for the July 14 stage

Four stages even exceeded "5 million viewers", including that of July 14 between Briançon and Alpe d'Huez which brought together 6.4 million.

France 2 is also pleased to have attracted 300,000 young people aged 15-34 on average every day, i.e. 8% more than in 2021. The channel thus rose to the top of daytime audiences in July on the small screen, at 19.1% audience share.
