The decision comes after, due to security reasons, it is not considered possible for the winning country to host next year's Eurovision, the EBU announces in a press release.

- We are exceptionally grateful that the BBC has agreed to organize the Eurovision Song Contest in Great Britain in 2023, says Martin Österdahl, at the Eurovision Song Contest in the press release.

Will be a support for Ukraine

The EBU's decision that next year's competition may not be organized by Ukraine came a month ago and was then met with disappointment in the country.

"We will demand that the decision be changed, as we believe we will be able to meet all demands," the country's Culture Minister Oleksandr Tkatchenko wrote in a statement.

During Monday, the chairman of the board of the Ukrainian television company UA:PBC, Mykola Chernotytskyi, wrote in a statement that next year's Eurovision Song Contest will be a support for Ukraine, and that they are grateful that their BBC colleagues are showing solidarity.

"I am convinced that together we will be able to bring Ukrainian spirit to this event and once again unite all of Europe around our shared values of peace, support and celebrating diversity and talent," writes Mykola Chernotytskyi.

Goes straight to the final

Ukraine will automatically qualify for the finals along with the "Big-5", the countries that financially contribute the most to the competition.
