A 100-pound fish jumped out of the waters off the coast of Florida and stabbed a 73-year-old woman while two female fishermen were trying to pull her off, Martin County, Maryland, authorities said.

A report from the Martin County Sheriff's Office said that Catherine Perkins of Arnold, Maryland, was injured after being stabbed in the thigh by a sailfish or seahorse fish on Tuesday.

This fish has a high dorsal fin resembling a sail, and a long and pointed snout (nose) resembling a beak.

The attack occurred while Perkins was standing in a boat while her two companions were trying to pull the fish on the fishing line to take a picture, and the fish appears to have taken revenge on the friends.

Sailfish are among the fastest fish in the ocean, and can be recognized by their long, pointed beaks.

The police chief's office said a sailfish jumped out of the water and stabbed Catherine in the groin while she was standing in a fishing boat.

The accident occurred two miles from Stewart Beach, Florida, on the state's Atlantic coast north of Palm Beach, the sheriff's office said in a report.

Perkins' companions, 75-year-old Louis Toth and 77-year-old Dominic Belleza, applied pressure to her wound, and she was taken to hospital for treatment.

The reports did not mention the extent of the injury suffered by the woman due to the stab fish.
