The Egyptian security services received a report of the death of a child residing in the Sejer area of Tanta, in the Gharbia Governorate, after drinking ice water from a water cooler while playing with a bicycle.
Investigations revealed that the child was playing with his bicycle, and because of the heat, sweating and losing a large amount of water, he felt thirsty, so he went to a nearby water cooler, took a dose of ice water from him, then fell unconscious on the ground, and breathed his last due to a sharp drop in blood circulation before reaching the hospital. the hospital.
The health inspector's report revealed that the child died of a sharp drop in blood circulation, while the prosecution requested investigations by the detectives about the incident and authorized the burial of the body.
For his part, Dr. Gamal Shaaban, the former director of the Heart Institute in Egypt, revealed that there are two reasons in this case that may be behind the death. The first is that because of the consumption of ice water in a hot body as a result of summer heat or excessive physical exertion, this leads to a heart attack.
He explained, that cold water activates the vagus nerve, which causes a very slow heart rate and in turn leads to a drop in blood circulation and fainting, and in this case death occurs, because the child was often suffering from a syndrome of an underlying electrical imbalance in the heart that was activated.
He said that the second possibility of death is that the child, after consuming cold water, was exposed to a rash that caused water to leak into the lungs.
