Several territories in the mountainous massifs of southern Isère, where the drought is “alarming”, have been placed at the “crisis” level and new water saving measures have been taken, announced the prefecture of the department.

The mountain catchment areas of Isère (Vercors, Chartreuse / Guiers, Belledonne, Oisans / Bonne and Trièves / Matheysine) are thus placed in maximum alert level (level 4), she indicates in a communicated.

Rain and snow deficit

Unlike certain sectors in the north and west of the department which benefited from locally abundant rains in June, these territories "have not received any rainfall for many weeks".

“In addition to this rainfall deficit, there is a historically low stock of snow for the month of July, which makes the drought situation of the surface waters of the mountain territories alarming”, underlines the prefecture.

“The dryness of the soil remains generally very pronounced throughout the department.

The levels of the rivers and water tables in the department remain very low for the season”.

As for the trends known for the rest of the summer, they are “hot and dry”, she still indicates.

Several villages in Chartreuse have been affected in recent days by water supply problems such as that of Miribel-les-Echelles, which has had to resort to tankers and calls on its population to reduce its consumption.
