In the era of newsstands disappearing, some people start new magazines, and some people make pure literary publications flourish——

Reading space to be reworked

  reading tips

The academician wrote and wrote, and each issue of "Asking for the Sky" can sell 50,000 copies; "October Youth Literature", which is "listenable, watchable, and participatory", has jumped to 100,000 copies in six years.

Journals, there is still a broad reading space waiting to be opened up.

"The launch of the Wentian experimental module was originally intended to organize young readers to watch the ceremony." Yu Min, president of the aviation magazine and editor-in-chief of "Wentian Youth", said regretfully to the "Worker's Daily" reporter in her office that because of the epidemic, originally This event, which is very in line with the magazine, could not be done.

"Ask the Sky" is an original youth journal in the aerospace field specially created for Chinese 8-18 year olds.

Launched in January this year.

"I can't find any newsstands anymore, so I have a new magazine, what do you think?" Ever since she came up with this idea five or six years ago, all Yu Min has heard are dissenting voices.

The data also shows that in 2021, the per capita reading volume of my country's paper journals will be 1.90 issues (copies), and it will be declining year by year.

More realistic than public opinion and data is that there is no money and no one.

However, it is such a magazine that became popular as soon as it came out.

"Each issue can sell 50,000 copies, and past issues are still being reprinted." Yu Min said three times in a row, "I didn't expect it."

Also popular is the pure literature magazine "October Youth Literature".

  "This name is done!"

In a small office, Yu Min and Wu Jinyuan, the editorial director of Aviation Knowledge, sat and reviewed the first sample issue in March last year.

There is no problem with the content, mainly because of the title of "Little Aerospace Engineer", and everyone is not satisfied.

"I wanted to highlight teenagers, but Jinyuan thought of the 'Tianwen' probe that had just arrived on Mars, so she came up with the title of "Tianwen Juvenile"." Yu Min was still very excited when she recalled it.

"It will reach 15,000 copies in the first year." At a time when paper publications are increasingly sluggish, they are closed and printing is reduced, and it is very daring to report this number.

But the founding process of this magazine can be missed with the word "optimistic".

The predecessor of the magazine was "Aviation Model", which was founded in 1982. It used to be the model science journal with the largest circulation and industry influence in China.

From prosperous to withered, it is the personal experience of the editorial staff. At this time, if a new magazine is launched, will it repeat the same mistakes?

Some people also persuaded Yu Min that "Aviation Knowledge" is very well done, has a good readership, and is very popular both online and offline. Just continue to do this book well.

In the field of children's science, there are already foreign journals such as "Curiosity" and "Everything", which are highly regarded by the Chinese. Is there still room for a new journal in the market?

However, Yu Min was working hard.

Although there are only three editors and no additional funds, it is still an impossible task to achieve the level of a first-class science magazine. Finally, at the end of last year, the title of the journal was approved and it was printed in the factory.

Let children see China's aerospace technology

Where did Yu Min and the others hold this breath from?

"At that time, my country's lunar probes and Mars probes had been successfully launched, but they were not mentioned in the copyright cooperation journals that sold well and were recommended by netizens. The astronauts and aerospace engineers who appeared in it were not Chinese. Face." Because of this, the editors of Aviation Knowledge magazine regretted it for many years.

"I want children to see China's aerospace technology."

Yu Min came to work in the magazine after graduating from university. She still remembers that the magazine was in the West Building of Beihang University. Many freshmen would go there to see it, because they decided to devote themselves to it after reading "Aviation Knowledge". aerospace industry.

This magazine, founded in 1958, has really influenced generations.

Academician Qi Fazhen, the first chief designer of the "Shenzhou" spacecraft, also said that he was a reader of "Aviation Knowledge".

In 2018, the 60th anniversary of the publication of "Aviation Knowledge", Dai Mingmeng, the first person to land on a Chinese aircraft carrier, Academician Wu Guanghui, chief engineer of C919, Academician Tang Changhong, chief engineer of Yun 20, and academician Xiang Qiao, an aeroengine expert... These are the authorities in the aerospace field. Experts all came to "run now" - "We all started our aerospace dream under the enlightenment of "Aviation Knowledge".

Many of them put forward a request to the magazine, hoping to meet the editor-in-chief of the year, Xie Chu, who is over 80 years old, at the celebration of the 60th anniversary of Aviation Knowledge.

They have all read Mr. Xie's articles published in "Aviation Knowledge", and some of them even received a letter from Editor-in-Chief Xie as readers when they were children.

"With the rapid development of my country's aerospace industry, more and more children are interested in aerospace. At this time, they need a professional leader to lead them to the space and their dreams to the universe." It was because they realized that a magazine had a huge impact on a person, a great cause, a country and a nation, and Yu Min and the others felt that they had to do it no matter how difficult it was.

Always remember, there will be reverberations.

Although it is not favored in the journal circle, it has many supporters in the field of aerospace.

On the title page of the inaugural issue, nearly 30 academicians jointly recommended it.

A number of front-line staff from aerospace colleges and research institutes also joined the youth editorial board.

In the 7 issues that have been published, 3 academicians have written and written articles.

  Journal of Freshmen

"In fact, there are five- or six-year-olds interacting with us. Most of them rely on pictures to understand and master the details of science. They think it looks enjoyable and interesting, and they use Lego blocks to assemble their own rockets and flying vehicles." Editor In the mailbox of the Ministry, the works presented by the young readers are received every day.

Yu Min said that experts and scholars should come out of the book and play with the children in aerospace technology hand in hand.

"Ask the Sky" is eye-catching, with content that keeps pace with the times, and more interactive editing and reading in the Internet age.

Similarly, another magazine based on inheritance and innovation, "October Youth Literature", has been creating new chapters since its official publication in January 2017.

At the beginning of its establishment, the magazine set the goal of "listening, watching, and participating", and implemented an all-media model for publishing and media interaction.

In order to deeply serve the campus, serve Chinese teaching, and cultivate new literary talents, a series of activities have been held all over the country, such as "Small October Study, Xiao He's Voice Recitation Conference", etc., to build a reading, creation, exchange for children , experience platform.

After 6 years of development, the circulation of the magazine has jumped from five to six thousand copies in the original single issue to 100,000 copies so far.

"In the future, "October Youth Literature" will form an IP incubator for children's original literature in accordance with the development goal of the entire IP industry chain, using modern means such as e-commerce and social media, multi-channel cooperation, grafting new formats, and forming a 'Little October' Brand-new business model." Zhang Xiaoli, executive editor of "October Youth Literature", told reporters.

Reading is diversified, journals, there is still a broad reading space waiting to be opened up.
