The first researcher at Al Jazeera Center for Studies, Dr. Liqaa Makki, highlighted that the Turkish military operation in northern Syria exists in terms of project, but in terms of implementation it awaits an approach between Ankara, Washington, Tehran and Moscow.

In his speech to an episode of "Beyond the News" program, he cited the last statement of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan after the recent Tehran summit, in which he said that the file of the military operation in northern Syria will remain on Turkey's agenda until its concerns are dispelled. related to its national security.

He said that Turkey tried to reach understandings with Russia and Iran during the Tehran summit, and perhaps there is a dialogue between it and the Americans who support the Kurds.

The first researcher at Al Jazeera Center for Studies concluded that there are 3 parties (the United States, Russia and China) with which Turkey must reach an understanding, and find an approach to establish a buffer zone with a depth of 30 kilometers to house about one million Syrian refugees.

On the reasons for Turkey’s insistence on carrying out the military operation in northern Syria, Makki said that the previous Turkish operations were aimed at removing the Kurdish danger from the borders, but currently the situation is related to the settlement of Syrian refugees, and therefore the Turks need a large land;

To achieve this, they would have to remove the Kurds from the region either by force or understanding.

He added that Turkey's project would affect the Kurds' dream of controlling the region's demography.

Regarding Ankara's understanding with Tehran and Moscow at the summit that brought together the heads of these countries recently, Makki stressed that the understanding that took place is not solid.

The proof of this is that a day after the issuance of the final statement of the summit, the Iranian foreign minister went to Syria and from there criticized the Turkish military operation, considering it dangerous.

Turkey does not need a green light

For his part, Dr. Khalil Al-Anani, professor of political science and international relations and researcher at the Arab Center in Washington, indicated that Turkey has a project and that it is benefiting from the current international situation in order to implement it.

Washington needs Ankara, the important ally, and there are negotiations it is embracing regarding the shipment of Ukraine's suspended grain exports, and Tehran needs it to break its isolation, as is the case with Moscow.

Al-Anani described the US position on the Turkish military operation as contradictory;

Because on the one hand it supports the Kurds and says it will not abandon them, and on the other hand it wants to satisfy Turkey, but he made it clear that any military operation in northern Syria must be in coordination with the Americans, in order to avoid clashes between the two sides on the ground.

In response to a question about the issue of the American green light for Turkey, the guest said that Turkey had carried out 3 military operations, but it did not take American approval.

On the other hand, al-Anani talked about what the Turkish Justice and Development Party (AKP) had used the card of the military operation in northern Syria in order to prepare for the upcoming elections.
