While the day is classified red this Saturday by Bison smart, the movement defending the rights of Basque prisoners Bake Bidea announced a day of blocking on the main axes of circulation, in particular in Bayonne, Biarritz or Bidart.

They are asking for the conditional release of Ion Parot and Jakes Esnal, former members of ETA, imprisoned in France for thirty-two years, convicted in connection with the Zaragoza garrison attack in 1987, which left eleven dead.

A request for parole to which the prosecution again opposed Thursday.

This Friday, the prefect of Pyrénées-Atlantiques decided for his part to ban this “blocking” operation, indicating that it “poses a serious risk to the safety and health of people”.

Important security device deployed

“This demonstration as well as any other demonstration in the Basque Country on July 23 on motorways, in stations and around stations, in airports and around airports is prohibited” and an “important security device will be deployed”, continues the press release from the State services.

To justify this decision, the prefect indicates that the “formalities necessary for the declaration of the demonstration were not respected” and that the “alternative methods of mobilization” proposed to the organizers were refused.

Unsurprisingly, as was to be expected, the @Prefet64 issued threats against the Artisans de la Paix.

This in no way undermines our determination to maintain this non-violent questioning of the State and its Head.
