Why this book?

  • Because Don Winslow is an American author who is fairly well-known

in Europe but who enjoys even greater success in his country of origin where several of his thrillers have been adapted to the cinema.

  • Because after his previous trilogy,

    La Griffe du chien

    , which

had managed to find its audience who welcomed the performance, in particular thanks to a very substantial research work, the author returns with a new trilogy, quite modestly named

    Cité

    with the first opus,

    The City in Flames

    .

After the circles of the drug, it immerses us this time in that of the mafia in the State of Rhode Island.

  • Because before being a thriller,

it's an atmospheric noir novel written in a very visual way.

It would also not be surprising if it were adapted into a film or a series, as the sets have been carefully studied and laid out.

The screenplay work is already almost finished, as the author has given it a very important place.

This book is worthy of the best series and films dealing with the mafia and fans of the style will find what they are looking for.

  • Because in addition to having a style of writing that is both raw

but very fluid, the subject has been the subject of intensive research by the author and this is easily felt.

Everything fits together perfectly and the story doesn't seem convoluted or made up of erroneous elements as it could have been.

This consistency in the story is to be welcomed!

While a vain cohabitation existed between them, the new generation decided otherwise and calls into question the agreements of the past.

Characters.

A plethora of characters, including Daniel Ryan.

A word of advice: write a little memo sheet throughout the story to allow you to better situate yourself between the different protagonists.

Places.

State of Rhode Island, USA

The time.

1986-1988

The author.

Don Winslow is an American crime novelist.

Before starting a literary career, he worked for more than 15 years as a private investigator in New York, then in California, Nebraska, Carolina, and even in Europe.

He is also very politically engaged.

This book was read with.

Fascination: I was literally stunned by the fate of the 2 families that clash: between the Irish and the Italians.

This infighting between the two clans rages on and honestly, it feels like apprehending it in their company.

The reader really lives the story.
