The mother of the murdered Egyptian journalist, Shaima Gamal, described her daughter's killer as a "traitorous butcher", in their first direct confrontation during the first court sessions that took place on Wednesday morning.

The presenter's mother said, addressing the murderer while he was in the cage, "You thug, you traitor," adding that if she entered the cage where her daughter's killers were standing, she would take revenge on them.

She added, screaming in a state of collapse and loss of nerve, that the killer killed her daughter and then participated in the family's search for her, claiming her disappearance, continuing by saying that he could have released her instead of killing her.

For his part, the accused judge replied that his wife's mother had been interrupting her daughter for 7 years, and that the late broadcaster drew a knife in his face and almost killed him, and therefore, in self-defence, he had to kill her, as he put it.

The Sixth Circuit of the Giza Criminal Court in Egypt decided yesterday to postpone the trial session of the accused in the case of the murder of broadcaster Shaima Gamal until August 13.

The first accused, Counselor Ayman Hajjaj, the presenter's husband, confessed to killing his wife, while the second accused denied participating in the killing.

During the session, the representative of the Public Prosecution confirmed that the accused had committed the crime of killing the victim, and mutilating her face in order to hide the features of the body.

Investigations revealed that the husband confessed to his wife’s many demands for him to announce his marriage to her and threatening her to publish video clips and pictures of their marital relationship, which she photographed without his knowledge and exposing the matter of their marriage, in addition to her asking him for 3 million pounds to agree to the divorce without tarnishing his reputation or threatening his future career.

The investigations indicated that the accused intended to kill his wife, the announcer, and agreed with the second accused, Hussein Al-Garabli, on this, and they planned to rent a farm and bury her in it after killing her.

It turned out that the defendants had set last Monday, June 20, as the date for the execution, and on Saturday, June 18, 2022, they went to buy the necessary tools to prepare the cemetery needed to bury the body there.

On the day of execution, the first accused took his victim's wife to the farm, while the other accused was waiting for him there.

Investigations revealed that on that day the judge and his wife, the announcer, went to rest on the farm, and the agreement between the defendants was that the phrase “preparing a cup of tea” would be the sign of execution.

As soon as that signal was issued, the first accused, oblivious to his wife, hit her with a licensed firearm on her head, crouched on her and closed her neck.

Then the second defendant helped him and tied her arms to immobilize her, and they remained in this position for about 10 minutes until she died.
