Municipal police officers have been authorized since March 2019 to wear body cameras.

But not all cities have taken the plunge.

Since Tuesday, the municipal police of Caen (Calvados) has however been equipped with this device for some of its agents in the field, reports

Liberté Le Bonhomme Libre

.

In a first, eight cameras can be placed on the outfit of the police.

A small number, since 65 municipal police officers make up the Caen brigade.

By June 2023, 14 devices will be added to the range.

Body cameras must be worn in a clearly visible manner and their activation is left to the discretion of the wearers.

Images kept for one month

If necessary, the persons filmed must be informed of the presence of the camera.

Christophe Fournier, director of the municipal police, estimated that this notification alone can "lower tensions".

The recorded images are erased after one month and can be consulted by the national police.
