• In the Monts d'Arrée, the mobilization of firefighters ended up paying off.

This Thursday, the violent fire which ravaged 1,700 hectares of moorland was under control.

  • According to the investigators, the two starts of fire are of human origin.

The criminal track is even privileged for one of them.

  • The fire leaves a desolate landscape in the Breton mountain range, which has experienced one of the worst fires in its history.

It took almost three days of intense efforts by the firefighters to be able to announce it.

At noon this Thursday, the good news was shared by the Finistère prefecture.

“The situation is completely stabilized with a controlled fire”.

Leaving Monday around 3 p.m. from the town of Brasparts, the fire which struck the Monts d'Arrée is now under control.

The balance sheet is heavy.

According to the authorities, the total area burned is 1,725 hectares, one of the largest fires that Brittany has known in its modern history.

In a few hours, whole kilometers of vegetation made up of moors, fir forests and deciduous trees went up in smoke.

A drama just mitigated by the almost miraculous rescue of the chapel of Saint-Michel de Brasparts.

This Thursday, the roads closed since Monday's fire starts should reopen to traffic.

The authorities, however, invite motorists to be very careful in this now desert and almost completely charred area.

In a press release, the prefect of Finistère Philippe Mahé wished "to thank all the firefighters, law enforcement and services mobilized throughout this firefighting operation".

More than 500 people were evacuated as a precaution in this area where the habitat is not very dense.

People were able to return to their homes.

On Wednesday, two investigations were opened by the Quimper prosecutor's office to try to shed light on the reasons for the start of the fire while Brittany was suffocating under unprecedented heat on Monday.

According to prosecutor Carine Halley, the two fires "certainly have a human origin" and "the criminal nature of the fire affecting the Brennilis site" is "manifest due to the finding of two fire starts 30 meters”.

No arrests had been made to date.
