The town hall of Antibes Juan-les-Pins issued a municipal decree on Tuesday announcing the closure of certain natural sites with a view to protecting these spaces, reports France 3 Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur.
Until August 13, the following places will no longer be accessible to the public:
Garoupe wood (except the access road and the Garoupe plateau)
Fort Carré wood
Villa Eilenroc
The Semboules wood
Albany Park in Juan-les-Pins
The town hall explains these measures by recalling the exceptional climatic conditions.
The Alpes-Maritimes prefecture has placed the Antibes conurbation in a “drought crisis zone”.
These closures aim to drastically reduce the risk of fire in these areas that are very popular with tourists.
Cap d'Antibes is also home to some of the most expensive villas on the Côte d'Azur, sometimes worth a few hundred million euros.
It is also an opportunity to protect a rich architectural and natural heritage.
