Is eating bananas useful for diabetics?

When it comes to controlling type 2 diabetes, your diet is key.

The ability to control blood sugar levels will help prevent further complications associated with the condition, and a nutritionist has warned patients to be careful when eating bananas if the type contains high sugars.

The British newspaper, “Express”, quoted nutrition and fitness expert, Natalie Komova, as saying that the main reason behind the high blood sugar is foods that contain a high percentage of carbohydrates, and while cakes and artificial sugar may come to mind directly, banana fruit can be associated with increased blood sugar levels. It also raises some problems for diabetics.

"Banana is a healthy fruit that has nutrients that can support overall health. It is rich in fiber, potassium and vitamin B6, however the high sugars in some types of bananas can have a negative impact on your glycemic index," she added.

"Eating a lot of bananas can raise blood glucose levels, especially in people who tend to be sensitive to carbohydrates."

She noted that this fruit does not have much to offer diabetics, and is not one of the best options for those with type 2 diabetes.

What are the symptoms of type 2 diabetes?

  • Urinating more than usual (especially at night).

  • Feeling thirsty all the time.

  • feeling very tired

  • Unintended weight loss.

  • Itching in sensitive areas.

  • Wounds heal slowly.

  • blurred vision

Doctors advise that when you feel any of these previous symptoms, you should check your blood sugar in order to control the disease and prevent its complications if you have it.
