Free public transport is a recurring debate, particularly during episodes of high heat or pollution.

In Amiens (Somme), the metropolis had decided to experiment with such a device in its buses last June, on the occasion of a day marked by high temperatures and a peak in ozone pollution.

The results have not been encouraging, reports

.

The operation was not repeated in July, despite the heat wave that hit the whole country.

The report drawn up by the elected officials did not live up to expectations.

Bus use has not increased even though this type of operation represents a significant cost for the community.

A budget of several thousand euros

The metropolis of Amiens has costed a day of free buses between 7,000 and 9,000 euros.

Some opposition politicians agree with the end of this type of experimentation, which is too costly for taxpayers, preferring the creation of islands of freshness on the territory.
