• The Bayonne festivals await a million festayres from July 27 to 31.

  • 1,500 law enforcement or rescuers will provide security.

  • A device will be deployed in the event of suspicion of a wild bite.

The festayres will be able to bring out their red scarf and their white top from the closet.

After two years of absence due to Covid-19, the Bayonne celebrations will make their big comeback from July 27 to 31.

But this event, one of the largest popular gatherings in Europe with a million revelers expected, returns "in an anxiety-provoking context", noted Jean-René Etchegaray, the mayor of the Basque city, at the time of detailing the safety device which will involve more than 1,500 people.

It includes in particular the anticipation of the care of possible victims of "wild sting", whose "serious symptoms" will be checked within the perimeter of the party by the nursing staff deployed on an advanced medical post, specified the prosecutor. of the Republic of Bayonne, Jérôme Bourrier.

"Unreasonable Fear"

“There is a real psychosis that leads everyone to say anything on social networks.

This fear is unreasonable and is not, here, corroborated by concrete factual elements, ”he added, referring to an unexplained wave of injections that has affected young people in nightclubs since the beginning of April.

In the jurisdiction of the Bayonne judicial court, around thirty complaints are currently being investigated, "but we have no proven intoxication and above all no related phenomenon of rape", insisted the magistrate again.

In all, 1,200 people, including national and municipal police, gendarmerie, three CRS companies and 600 private security agents, will be requisitioned.

About 300 rescuers and firefighters will complete the teams.

“The device is roughly similar to that of 2019”, date of the last edition, according to the sub-prefect of Bayonne, Philippe Le Moing-Surzur.
