[Explanation] On July 18, in the finless porpoise nature reserve in Anqing City, Anhui Province, three assisting patrol team members were conducting regular patrols in the prohibited catch area of Daguan District.

It is understood that the prohibited fishing area in Daguan District is 69.64 square kilometers and the total length of the coastline is 85 kilometers. It involves the provincial nature reserve of finless porpoise and 2 national aquatic germplasm resource reserves. There were 825 fishermen, and 53-year-old Li Genbao was one of the fishermen who came ashore.

This kind of hook is a prohibited fishing tackle, and it is always prohibited to fish in the water. It does great harm to the fish, and some criminals occasionally steal it.

This is a state-prohibited fishing tackle, which will be confiscated (after) for centralized destruction. If it is caught in a criminal case, it will be sentenced.

[Explanation] 48-year-old Xu Hongli was originally a fisherman in Daguan District. He followed his grandfather and father in the Yangtze River to make a living by fishing since he was a child.

Since January 1, 2020, when the Yangtze River began to implement the ten-year fishing ban on the Yangtze River, Xu Hongli's family took the initiative to withdraw from the fishing and went ashore to assist the inspectors, changing from a fisherman to a guardian of the Yangtze River.

It was a little uncomfortable at first, because we changed to a new environment. Now, after a long time, we basically got used to it.

How to say it?

We have been living on this water surface since our parents, we rely on fishing for a living, and we have a little affection for this water, which belongs to this category.

On the other hand, we have a better understanding of the water surface and this kind of environment, so we chose (to be a ranger), and it was quicker to adapt, so we chose this kind of (job).

[Explanation] According to Xu Hongli, the Fishery Administration Brigade in Daguan District is currently staffing 12 law enforcement officers and 16 coordinators. Some of the team members are fishermen who have returned to the shore. Their daily work is to patrol the no-catch area. Discourage illegal fishing, fishing and other activities, seize fishing gear, clean up garbage in protected areas, inspect sewage and other behaviors that damage natural resources and the environment.

This is for the benefit of our children and grandchildren, not only for our generation, but now obviously, in the past few years, the fishing ban has been banned, and now we all see in the daily inspection process that there are shoals of fish on the water. When we go out of the river, Occasionally, finless porpoises are seen playing and fishing on the river surface, so this is obviously much better than before.

[Explanation] On the Yangtze River, large freight ships shuttle back and forth. At the Anqing Port Wharf on the shore, the gantry crane is placing the containers full of goods on the ship stably.

Long Chen, deputy chief of the safety and environmental protection section of Anqing Port and Shipping Management Service Center, is conducting daily environmental inspections in the port.

From 2020 onwards, according to the spirit and requirements of the “Remediation Plan for Prominent Pollution Problems from Ships and Ports in the Yangtze River Economic Belt” issued by the four central ministries and commissions, our Anqing Port has carried out comprehensive rectification of ship and port pollution problems at all ports in the port. One of them is Build the capacity of ports for receiving, transshipment and disposal of ship pollutants.

Specifically, an intelligent receiving system for ship garbage, sewage, and oily sewage has been built.

At present, all the terminals of our Anqing Port have achieved full coverage of intelligent receiving facilities.

[Explanation] According to Long Chen, if a ship docked at Anqing Port has garbage to be delivered, the crew only needs to download the "Ship E Line" APP on their mobile phones, scan the code, and put the sorted garbage into the corresponding cabin In the door, the receiving and transshipment of ship garbage is completed.

Through the comprehensive management of pollution prevention and control of ships and ports in the past three years, one of our current terminals is that ship pollutants have been effectively received, transferred, and collected ashore; the other is that the sewage generated by the terminal itself has also been effectively collected and collected. The secondary recycling has greatly improved compared to the previous pollution to the surrounding waters.
