25 dead and 35 injured in a traffic accident in Egypt

At least 25 people were killed and more than 35 people were injured, on Tuesday, when a passenger bus collided with a parked truck in the village of Al-Barsha in southern Egypt, according to Egyptian media.

The Minya Governorate and "Akhbar Al-Youm" newspaper published on Tuesday that the bus, which was carrying about fifty passengers, collided with a parked truck near the village of Al-Barsha in Minya, about 300 km south of Cairo.

And the governorate's website published that "the transport vehicle was parked on one side of the road to change the tire, and it collided with the bus coming from Sohag governorate heading to Cairo."

The governorate authorities had announced early that the accident resulted in “the death of 22 Egyptian citizens and the injury of 33 others,” but later the website of the government newspaper Akhbar Al-Youm confirmed that “the number of victims of the Minya accident has risen to 25 and injured more than 35 others,” without clarifying whether the accident resulted in For victims other than bus passengers.

The governorate authorities indicated that the injured were transferred to Mallawi Hospital for treatment, and that the governor, Major General Osama Al-Qadi, who inspected the site of the collision, was on his way to the hospital “to follow up on the health condition of the injured and to check on the availability of the necessary health care.”
