Météo-France placed 69 departments on heatwave orange vigilance on Monday afternoon, as well as Andorra, while 15 others on the Atlantic coast remain on red vigilance, at the height of the heatwave episode.

This reflects the displacement of "the heat wave towards the eastern regions of the country", according to the Météo-France bulletin, which notes around 3 p.m. that "many absolute records, (have been) equaled or even beaten" as in Nantes with 40.5°C or in Biscarrosse with 41.7°C, but that “the maximum temperatures have not yet been reached”.

A climax

"This Monday marks the culmination of this heatwave episode on the western side of the country with a peak of extreme heat", notes Météo-France.

“In Brittany, this level of heat is therefore quite exceptional.

Storms could hit the south of the Alps with "showers that can give heavy rainfall in a short time", while the wind will strengthen Monday evening on the Aquitaine coast, while firefighters are still fighting fires.

Temperature dropping on Tuesday

Temperatures will drop on Tuesday and "heat wave red vigilance" should be lifted on the vigilance map for Tuesday morning at 6 a.m. ", indicates Météo-France, while the high temperatures will shift "over the eastern half of France" with temperatures between 37 and 40°C.

“On Wednesday, the high temperatures will only concern the south-eastern quarter of the country”, a situation which could last for several days.
