Fugitive lions cause terror in Africa.. They are no longer afraid of humans!

Six lions have been killed after escaping from a South African hunting reserve and terrorizing residents living nearby, wildlife authorities said Monday.

Authorities said guards in the eastern province of KwaZulu-Natal killed the lions after residents protested that they were unable to walk safely at night.

"Anger was rising while there were fears that the lions were no longer afraid of people," said Moses Mntampo, a spokesman for the Isimvilu KZN Wildlife Sanctuary.

He added that the lions killed at least six cows and did not run away when they saw humans and instead walked towards them.

Globally, the number of lions living in the wild is declining, but in South Africa their numbers are growing and have reached 3,500, according to wildlife associations.
