Even the Bretons got it.

As predicted by Météo-France, this Monday was the most suffocating day of this heat wave which for the inhabitants of the Southwest has now lasted for a week.

Brest has also opened the ball for the – many – absolute heat records fallen: the mercury rose there to 35.8°C at the start of the afternoon, relegating to oblivion the 35.2°C of July 12, 1949 .

Still in Finistère, it was 40.3°C in Lanmeur, far ahead of the 36°C in July 2016. Record also beaten in Saint-Brieuc (Côtes-d'Armor) with 39.5°C (against 38.1 °C in August 2003).

A 73-year-old record in Nantes

With 40.7°C in Nantes, a 73-year-old record is evaporating, just like in Saintes in Charente-Maritime with 41.1°C.

Very hot night to come in the North-West (minimum>25°C from the Loire to Normandy, eastern Brittany).

End of the #heat wave on the Atlantic coast tomorrow, extension and intensification of the #heat towards NE.

Among the other temperatures never reached from meteorologist's memory: 41.2°C in Cholet, 40.7°C in Angers, 41.4°C in La Roche-sur-Yon, 41°C in Niort, 37.3°C in C in Chassiron, or 42.6°C in Biscarosse on the Basque coast.

In Cazaux in Gironde, within the perimeter of one of the two major fires, the mercury rose to 42.4°C.

The western regions should see the end of this heat wave tunnel on Tuesday.

This cooling will be accompanied by a strong westerly wind on the Gironde coast, which is not really good news on the fire front.

Our live heat wave

The high temperatures will shift to the eastern half of France with temperatures between 37 and 40°C in the east and several more days in the Rhône valley.
