Following the sinking of the tour boat "KAZU1" off the coast of the Shiretoko Peninsula, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism conducted an urgent safety inspection on 790 passenger ship operators nationwide and announced the results.



According to this, 162 operators, which is 20% of the total, were found to have violated laws and regulations regarding operations.



The most common case was

where wave heights and wind speeds were not recorded in the flight record book, which was confirmed by 52 operators.

It means that there were cases where the flight manager was absent in the past flights.

The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism has provided administrative guidance, and 143 businesses have been corrected so far, and the remaining 19 businesses will be checked in flight records in the future.

In addition, as a result of investigating the communication environment of small passenger ships that use mobile phones as communication equipment, some of the 33 routes operated by 29 operators deviate from the "call area map" published by mobile phone companies. It turned out that the operator had taken steps to change the route and carrier of the mobile phone.

The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism will continue to confirm that these operators are operating properly.
