In the Lonjsko Polje Nature Park near the Croatian capital Zagreb, the Ministry of Agriculture has found anthrax in several dead cattle.

This is reported by the AP news agency, citing official information.

Before they died, the animals had already shown corresponding symptoms.

The public news broadcaster HRT reported that four people were hospitalized after contact with the animals with slight skin irritation.

The broadcaster put the number of dead animals at 107.

According to the responsible authority, all necessary steps have been taken to ensure that the pathogen does not spread outside of the Lonjsko Polje Nature Park.

Anthrax (or anthrax) is a bacterial infectious disease that can be transmitted almost exclusively by ungulates such as cattle or sheep.

Cutaneous anthrax is the most common form found in humans.

People can become infected with it through open wounds.

The infection can be fatal if not treated with antibiotics.
