A 62-year-old flight instructor died when a small plane crashed in Würselen near Aachen.

His 21-year-old student suffered serious injuries in the accident on Saturday afternoon, according to the police in Aachen.

The small plane from a flight school and a helicopter were approaching Merzbrück Airport at the same time.

During the evasive maneuver, the plane crashed.

The 21-year-old was taken to a hospital.

Meanwhile, a microlight aircraft in the district of Soest was hit by a gust and crashed as a result.

The 56-year-old pilot suffered life-threatening injuries in Bad Sassendorf on Saturday, according to the police.

The man from Holzwickede was rescued from the wreck by witnesses and taken to a hospital in a rescue helicopter, the police said.

When the machine was hit by the gust, the man was already on the approach to the airport in Lohne and fell from a height of about 20 meters, the police said.

The 56-year-old was the only occupant of the plane.

In addition, two people were injured when a glider pilot made an emergency landing in a barley field in the Eifel.

Based on previous investigations, the police suspect that a pilot error was the most likely cause of the emergency landing.

It happened just a few minutes after the start of the doubles on Saturday afternoon in Utscheid (Bitburg-Prüm district).

On landing, the pilot suffered serious injuries and his passenger received minor injuries.

As the police in Bitburg announced, the Federal Office for Aircraft Accident Investigations is now taking over further investigations into the cause.
