It has been confirmed that an underwater insect called "Kiironekuihamushi", which was considered extinct in Japan, lives in Lake Biwa in Shiga Prefecture, and the confirmation in Japan has become a hot topic for the first time in 60 years. ..

"Kiironekuihamushi" is an insect with a body length of about 4 mm that spends its entire life in water using aquatic plants that grow in clean water, and was distributed in Honshu and Kyushu. Then it was said to be "extinct".

Professor Makoto Kato of Kyoto University and others found "Macroplea japanaum" when they collected aquatic plants from Lake Biwa for another biological survey, and confirmed that they live in a part of Lake Biwa.

In Japan, it will be the first confirmation in 60 years since it was last collected in Fukuoka City, so the Ministry of the Environment said that the species that is said to be extinct will be found again in Yamanashi Prefecture 12 years ago. It is said to be rare since "Kunimasu" in Fukuoka.

Professor Kato of Kyoto University said, "The habitat of this insect is a place that can be said to be the original landscape of Japan where dragonflies fly around, and preserving the habitat also leads to leaving the old-fashioned landscape of Japan." I did.
