We know (a little) more about “The Rings of Power”

After a teaser unveiled during the Super Bowl, Amazon Prime Video has released a trailer for

, the new series set in the universe created by JRR Tolkien.

We watched it and we decipher it for you, with five points to remember.

Númenór in majesty

The trailer takes us on a little visual tour of Middle-earth.

We discover the elven kingdoms of Lindon and Eregion, the kingdom of the Dwarves of Khazad-dûm, and several human kingdoms, including that of Númenór, the island-kingdom.

The pictures are sublime.

Amazon announced that it spent almost $500 million on the eight episodes of the first season, it shows.

Familiar names with new faces

This trailer also reveals two characters already present in

, Galadriel and Elrond (played by Cate Blanchett and Hugo Weaving in the films, here by Morfydd Clark and Robert Aramayo).

After a long fight, Elrond thinks it's time for Galadriel to put his sword back in its sheath.

“You didn't see what I saw,” the elf queen replies grimly.

We also see Isildur (Harry Sinclair in

, here Maxim Baldry), Aragorn's ancestor.

Our ancestors, the Harfoots

New central characters make their first appearance, such as Celebrimbor (Charles Edwards), the master elven blacksmith who created the three elven rings or the Queen Regent of Numenor, Míriel (Cynthia Addai-Robinson).

We finally get to know the Harfoots, the ancestors of the Hobbits, who were darker-skinned, had no beards and already didn't wear shoes.

Put a Ring on It

at the end!

As often in trailers, you also have to consider what you don't see.

The rings of power, which give their name to the series, are neither shown nor even mentioned.

As a reminder, there are three rings for elves, seven for dwarves, nine for humans, and the most powerful of them all, the one ring that Sauron wears (and which Frodo destroys in

).

Will we know who Sauron is?

Finally, where is Sauron?

He is the great antagonist of the

story .

And unlike the trilogy adapted by Peter Jackson, where he only appears as a giant eye, here he is supposed to have a more human form.

Is it in the comet that we see flying over Middle-earth?

We see at the end a human figure getting up in a crater of fire (the impact of the comet?), which looks furiously like an eye.

On Imdb, no actor is credited for his role.
