  • Three seasons of this manga, which takes place in Montpellier, are planned for now.

Dreamland

has everything of a dream.

The manga, created by the Montpellier designer Reno Lemaire, is a huge success.

Since the publication of the first volume in 2006, nearly 700,000 copies have been sold.

A twentieth was released in June, and the next one is eagerly awaited by fans on October 12.

A plebiscite that Reno Lemaire did not expect, when he imagined this story, fifteen years ago.

"When I signed volume 1, I only hoped for one thing: to sign volume 2," smiles the author.

From now on,

Dreamland

flies away towards new skies.

The story is going to be adapted into an animated series by the Chouette Compagnie, a French studio, to which we owe the brilliant

Droners

or

The world according to Kev

.

The program will be offered on the platform specialized in anime DNA (Anime Digital Network).

Three seasons of around ten episodes are already planned.

“The anime is a big bonus!

»

The anime, for which no release date has yet been revealed, will follow the plot imagined by Reno Lemaire: a high school student manages to tame his anxieties, especially that of fire, and even becomes a real hero, when he trip to Dreamland, the land of dreams.

“My goal has always been to go to the end of my series, and to be given the opportunity to make the volumes I want, confides the author.

Anything that happens outside is a bonus.

And clearly, the anime is a big bonus!

When it was offered to me, I immediately agreed.

All the more so because it's the Chouette Compagnie, a French studio.

Sylvain Dos Santos [the creative director] is someone with whom I immediately had a feeling.

I always walk by feeling!

»

A project that was very, very, expected by fans of the manga.

"I've been receiving around 15 messages every day for three years asking me 'When will there be a

Dreamland

anime ?' smiles the author from Montpellier.

Manga audiences necessarily associate a long series with an anime.

According to Reno Lemaire, the rise of platforms favors the creation of projects like this one, which would perhaps never have seen the light of day, with the only traditional channels.

“Four years ago, that wouldn't have been possible.

There is no self-censorship in

Dreamland

.

When we dream of an adaptation, we hope that it will be faithful.

Platforms allow you to let go in writing.

We can handle anything, as long as it's told intelligently.

»

If it is the talents of the Chouette Compagnie, today essential in the sector, who will be at the helm, Reno Lemaire will of course work closely on this adaptation.

"What's cool with ADN and the Chouette Compagnie is that I'm consulted early, at each stage," explains the Montpellier resident, who had "a weird feeling" the first time he saw his characters move.

“I had never prepared for it!

I was very pleasantly surprised,” he smiles.

There is another stage that may surprise him: when his heroes will speak.

"I will be consulted during the casting," he notes.

And I was told that I will choose.

What I want to focus on is the synergy between the actors.

Because the strength of

Dreamland

is also the dialogues.

Reno Lemaire is at Japan Expo, until Sunday.
