His favorite quote:

“While walking, Jazz remained silent, troubled.

How had he managed to make her talk about her so much?

Why this book?

  • Because this novel is Lucinda Riley's last unpublished novel.

Indeed, the author died on June 11, 2021 from cancer.

She leaves behind an immense literary heritage such as her famous saga,

    The Seven Sisters

, the last volume of which will be published next year and co-written with her son, Harry Whittaker, according to her last wishes.

Written in 2006, it is only today that, according to his wish,

    The mysteries of Fleat House

    is published.

  • Because if Lucinda Riley is known for writing

general literature and in particular family frescoes, we did not know that she had written a detective novel.

    Indeed,

    The Mysteries of Fleat House

is very different from what it's offered so far, and it explores the detective genre set in a swanky boarding school in the English countryside.

  • Because if this genre is brand new for the reader who is a fan

of Lucinda Riley, we find everything that makes her mark.

A strong and independent heroine but full of cracks.

Jazz Hunter is an outstanding inspector but often mistreated by certain members of the male sex.

She is the one who will investigate the Fleat House boarding school to find out what is going on there.

Add the right dose of mystery and secondary intrigues and we find the ingredients that make the success of Lucinda Riley.

I'm sure that several novels with Jazz would have been a success.

  • Because the atmosphere is excellent.

    Beyond the mysteries

and lies that wander Jazz Hunter and the reader, we investigate in a restricted place with a sometimes dark atmosphere that reminded me of that of

    Rebecca

    by Daphne du Maurier.

Also, Lucinda Riley's pen is so addictive that I really felt like a character in the story.

I devoured the pages like never before, wanting to know who the culprit was and making assumptions, not always correct but which kept me spellbound.

The essentials in 2 minutes

The plot.

Within the prestigious private boarding school of St. Stephen, in the heart of the idyllic Norfolk countryside, lies the austere dormitory of Fleat House.

When a student is found dead in his room, we think of an accident but this is not the opinion of the investigator Jazz Hunter...

Characters.

Jazz Hunter, the investigator and heroine of the novel but also those who assist her like Miles and Issy.

We also find Patrick her ex-husband and all the residents and teachers of Fleat House.

Places.

The entire novel takes place in England, in Norfolk, around a boarding school located in an old building.

The time.

The novel takes place in 2005, so in our time.

The author.

Lucinda Riley was born in 1965 in Ireland, and after a career as an actress in theatre, film and television, she wrote her first novel at the age of 24.

His books have since been translated into 37 languages, have sold over 40 million copies.

This book was read with

pleasure, excitement and nostalgia.

Pleasure and excitement because Lucinda Riley is a reference in general foreign literature but nostalgia because it is the last unpublished novel by this author.

A dive full of suspense and twists and turns in the English countryside worthy of a great thriller.
