Children's hepatitis and Covid Thus they explain how the infection causes liver alterations in children
The number of global cases of
acute childhood hepatitis
of unknown origin rises to 1,010 in 35 countries, including 22 fatalities, the
World Health Organization
(
WHO
) reported on Wednesday.
The figure represents an increase of 90 cases compared to the previous WHO report, on June 24, and two additional countries with an incidence of this disease (
Luxembourg
and
Costa Rica
), the organization said.
In 5% of the cases (46 in total) the children needed transplants, highlights the WHO, which has launched a global investigation into the proliferation of these cases, because the incidence is being higher than in previous years.
Almost half of the cases, in Europe
Almost half of the cases have been identified in Europe, with 272 in
the United Kingdom
, although the most affected country is the
United States
, with 334 cases, according to WHO figures.
Other countries with several dozen cases are
Italy
(36),
Spain
(40),
Mexico
(69), and
Japan
(67), indicates the Geneva-based organization.
The first cases were detected in the United Kingdom at the beginning of April in children under ten years of age and without health problems.
recommendations
While waiting for more to be known about the origin of this hepatitis, the main prevention measures that are recommended are similar to those adopted in the face of the
Covid-19
pandemic , such as washing hands with soap or hydroalcoholic gel, avoiding crowds and ensuring good ventilation of the interiors.
The use of a mask and the consumption of drinking water are also suggested, in addition to hygiene measures during the preparation of the elements: separate raw food from cooked food, keep food at a safe temperature, use drinking water and regularly clean surfaces.
