It causes nosebleeds and fever .. a mysterious disease kills 3 people in Tanzania

On Wednesday, health officials in Tanzania said that more than 10 people have contracted an unknown disease characterized by causing nosebleeds in the south of the country, three of whom have died so far.

According to local media, the outbreak occurred in the coastal city of Lindi, where the first patients were admitted to hospital with several symptoms.

The country's chief medical officer, Aivilo Sechaloye, stated that this was between July 5-7.

Cishaloy specified that as of July 12, there were 11 patients in total, three of whom had died.

Tanzanian President Samia Solo Hassan said the disease was likely the result of environmental degradation, which has forced wild animals to settle alongside humans, affecting their health.

And the Tanzanian government announced, on Wednesday, the dispatch of a team of doctors and health experts to investigate the mysterious disease, which Sishaloy said symptoms include fever, headache, fatigue and nosebleeds.

Cichaloy said the patients tested negative for Ebola, Marburg and Covid, adding that one of the patients had fully recovered while the rest were isolated.

"The government has formed a team of professionals who are still investigating this unknown disease," he added, urging people in the area to remain calm.

Ghana reported last week two suspected cases of Marburg virus, which belongs to the same family as Ebola, and causes symptoms including high fever and internal and external bleeding.
