Egypt: We apologized to the Russian artist over the metro station murals

The National Authority for Tunnels of the Egyptian Ministry of Transport responded to what was raised about the fact that the paintings of the Russian artist Grigory Korasov were used in the design of the murals of the Girls College metro station without his permission.

The authority explained, in a statement, that the goal of the idea of ​​​​working and designing murals at metro stations comes within the framework of establishing a general cultural project by organizing artistic and cultural events, many of which were implemented on the ground in some stations of the third metro line, in order to maximize the added value for metro pioneers and passengers and use it as a means. To support arts and culture and not just as a means of transportation only, this project has won the admiration and approval of the public of all classes and cultures.

She added that as soon as the authority learned of the news and information circulated on various websites, social media platforms and media programs regarding the fact that the artist Korasov's paintings were used in the work of mural designs in the Girls College metro station on the third line without obtaining prior permission from him, the authority communicated and coordinated with the responsible company. For the management and operation of the third line of the metro, in order to take all necessary legal measures to preserve the rights of the authority and the company, as well as to preserve the rights of the Russian artist.

She confirmed that the murals and designs had been removed from the Girls College metro station on the third line, and an apology to the Russian artist for this incident and stressing the inevitability of full respect for intellectual property rights and artistic creativity and not to be infringed in any way, explaining that she retains all her material and moral rights, whether against Ghada Wali and any other party that circulates inaccurate or false information that harms the Authority.
