Morocco won its bet on July 13, 2022 in Rabat.

The Cherifian Kingdom had decided to invest seriously in women's football and to organize an African Cup of Nations (CAN 2022) qualifying for the World Cup.

This double choice has paid off since his national team qualified for the semi-finals of CAN 2022 and especially for the first World Cup in its history.

For that, the Moroccans only needed a success in the quarter-finals of the tournament, this Wednesday, against Botswana.

And they got it after a successful collective performance.

Fatima Tagnaout, double decisive passer

From the 3rd minute, on a free kick returning from midfielder Fatima Tagnaout, striker Sanaa Mssoudy deflects the ball just enough to deceive the opposing goalkeeper Sedilame Boseja.

In the aftermath, the Botswana striker Keitumetse Dithebe certainly rolls up a superb free kick which allows his selection to equalize: 1-1, 7th.

But the Atlas Lionesses did not let themselves be defeated and regained the advantage after the break.

In the 59th minute, on a new offering from Tagnaout, defender Yasmin Mrabet, left alone at the far post, took the ball with a header: 2-1.

Well established, enterprising and pushed by their public, the Lionesses of the Atlas impose themselves.

They will go to the next World Cup, scheduled for July 20 to August 20, 2023 in Australia and New Zealand.

In the meantime, they will play on July 18 against the winner of Cameroon-Nigeria for a place in the CAN 2022 final.
